Latin Name: Trigonella foenum-graecum
Family: Leguminosae
Height: 80cm

Laboratory experiments on rabbits and rats have shown that fenugreek benefits cases of diabetes and helps protect the liver.

Constituents: Volatile oil, alkaloids, saponins, vitamins A, B1 and C, mucilage, protein and minerals.

Actions: Seeds stimulate uterine contractions so should not be fed during pregnancy other than to stimulate delayed labour. Stimulates lactation.  Stimulates appetite and encourages weight gain.
