Galen's Garden was founded originally in 1990 by product researcher and designer Belinda Francis, and specialises in herbal and other natural products for herbivorous pets such as Rabbits, Guinea Pigs and Chinchillas. They can also be used for other herbivores including goats and tortoises.

The product range at Galen's has grown from a single product, the Hedgerow Herb blend, to over 70 products during that 20 year period.

Belinda is adamant though that is was never a simgle handed effort.  A lot of thanks are due to others who've supported Galen's Garden over the years.:-

"Early inspiration to expand the range came from maverick "Guinea Pig Guru", Peter Gurney, and the stockman breeders I met at the local New Malden rabbit club. From there, and through the SCC's Pam Hillier, I took my herbs to guinea pig shows, starting with the Worthing show thanks to Penny Bell.

Most of the products have grown from breeders requests for particular combinations or combinations that "do" something. I use ingredients from the best suppliers of human herbal medicines in my products and it is a standing joke that I test most of them on family and friends. "Tested on humans for use on guinea pigs"!

Thanks are due to my former business partner and her family. Without her belief in the products and the support she and her family offered (both moral and financial), I might well have given up on the products entirely several years ago. And of course thanks to my long suffering husband and children who also got roped in to doing the shows in the early days."

Specialist Ltd took over Galen's Garden and Yaktrax in June 2005.  In 2010 a sucessful Yaktrax winter season paved the way for Galen's Garden to expand the product range.  We are delighted to be selling some excellent specialist English grown Yorkshire hays, carefully machine dried by The Hay Company to ensure all year round quality.

We've also expanded the range of 'herbal hay' natural forages including some English grown organic herbs produced specially for us, and imported some delicious soft, green, young barley grass to tempt even the fussiest eater.

To celebrate our 20th Anniversary, Galen's Garden has invested in a luxury dried vegetable mix "Very Veggie" which includes dried Beetroot, Broccoli Floret & Stem, Cabbage, Carrots, Celeriac, Kale, Lettuce, Pak Choi & Freeze Dried Sweet Corn.
